Congress established June 14 as Flag Day in 1949 to honor the US flag’s role in the country’s history, culture, and national ideals. It’s not one of the Big Holidays. We don’t get a day off work for Flag Day and people don’t think of having barbecues because of the holiday. But Flag Day is important.

June 14th also marks the Army’s 234th birthday. In the 7th year of the Global War on Terror, let’s remember the US Army was born to fight for our freedom and in defense of our flag. All branches of the US military have been doing so ever since. Honoring Flag Day by flying our national standard is a simple way for us to show our appreciation.
