Eyes Wide Shut: Stimulus Not Creating Jobs

Filed under: Bailout, Business, Economy, Michigan, Politics — cynicalsynapse @ 10:00 pm

The project to widen I-94 in Kalamazoo predates the Stimulus bill. That didn’t stop Vice President Biden from taking credit in announcing $2 billion in Recovery Zone bonds for Michigan. So, what’s a Recovery Zone bond and who has to pay it back? In any case, Gov. Granholm seemed surprised and pleased.

It seems the I-94 project was just the venue for the announcement by Vice President Joe Biden Michigan will get $2 billion out of $25 billion. Oakland and Wayne Counties will get $260 and $196 million, respectively, with the City of Detroit getting $125 million. Gov. Jennifer Granholm was ecstatic, hugging the Veep.

Lt. Gov. John Cherry

Giving the Governor’s weekly radio address, Lt. Gov. John Cherry—who never opens his eyes—touted the Kalamazoo County project as making a real difference for Michigan. Cherry claimed the stimulus bill will create 27,000 Michigan jobs, over 1,200 alone from the I-94 project. What the Mole misses is these road projects are temporary jobs. Never mind that Michigan lost 173,000 jobs last year. It’s all just smoke and mirrors.

Cherry needs to open his eyes if he wants to have even the remotest chance at the Governor’s job next election. Literally and figuratively.
